pH Increaser Soda Ash 10kg | Sodium Carbonate | Pool & Spa pH Up
The best value pH treatment for serious pool owners. pH Increaser (Soda Ash) 10kg is the bulk pail choice for NZ pool and spa owners who want stable, balanced water all season without constant reordering. Fast-acting Sodium Carbonate raises pH quickly, keeps your chlorine effective, and protects your equipment and surfaces from acidic water damage.
When pH drops below 7.2, chlorine loses up to 50% of its effectiveness and water becomes corrosive to pool surfaces, fittings, and equipment. A correct pH of 7.2-7.6 for pools and 7.2-7.8 for spas is essential for comfortable, efficient swimming.

Dosing Guide
Swimming Pools:
- Add 500g per 50,000L to raise pH by approximately 0.5
- Pre-dissolve in a bucket of water before adding to the pool
- Allow 6 hours of pump circulation, then retest
- Apply near a return jet for best distribution
Spa Pools:
- Add 1 teaspoon (approx. 7g) per 1,000L to raise pH by approximately 0.5
- Dose gradually, retest after 30 minutes before adding more
- Always run jets while dosing for even distribution
Tip: Always test pH before and after dosing. Never add more than the recommended dose in a single application, it is easier to add more than to correct an overshoot. Do not add pH Increaser and chlorine at the same time, adjust pH first, wait 6 hours, then add chlorine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How quickly does pH Increaser work?
A: pH begins rising within 30-60 minutes of application. Allow 6 hours of full circulation before retesting and re-dosing if needed.
Q: Can I add pH Increaser and chlorine at the same time?
A: No, always adjust pH first, wait 6 hours, then add chlorine. Adding both together reduces the effectiveness of both chemicals.
Q: What if I add too much?
A: High pH (above 7.8) causes cloudy water and reduces chlorine effectiveness. Use a pH Decreaser (Sodium Bisulphate) to bring it back down. Always dose gradually.
Q: How long will a 10kg pail last?
A: For a 50,000L pool needing a 0.5 raise in pH, you need 500g per dose. A 10kg pail provides approximately 20 full pool doses, enough for a full season of regular adjustments.
Q: Why does my pH keep dropping?
A: Common causes include Trichlor tablets (which are acidic), low Total Alkalinity, and heavy rainfall. Check your Total Alkalinity first, if it is below 80 ppm, raising it will help stabilise pH naturally.
Q: Is this safe for all pool types?
A: Yes, safe for concrete, fibreglass, vinyl liner, and tiled pools, and all spa pool types.
